This is group for people interested in teams and players who live / play / work in London or Greater London
The Sepak Takraw UK Association recently spoke to Julia Harries, a teacher from Hartford High School. We were excited to hear that they had recently adopted Sepak Takraw. So, as you can imagine, we were thrilled to hear that this had come about as part of the International Inspiration programme. Not only that but Sir Chris Hoy would be visiting the school to celebrate the scheme and see the results first hand.
UEL - The first Uni in the UK to accept Takraw and allow it to be a sport there, are continuing with it's support. A Few key players / enthusiasts at the Uni will be captaining and running training sessions, lead / assisted by our Head Coach Chang Min Jung. Chang has seen some promise there and sees no reason why they cannot form a team and compete with other Unis or teams around the UK.
We took some nets and Takraws to a well known park in London and played Takraw with a hands on demonstration that anyone was free to join in. People ranged from football fans to people with little coordination but all had fun trying the sport and some of its associated moves! Again the UK public showed promise in our nation becoming a decent team in the future!
On the 4th and 5th of July 2009 @ Danson Park, (address below) - The UK Association hosted a tent with information, Takraws, competitions and a try-out area with mini-net! - Some of our members also attempted to do a public demonstration in the main demo area (which drew crowds and a variety of people, some joining in on the courts next to us. A big thank you to all who attended and showed their support!
