A trainee PE teacher studying at The University of Brighton has got involved with Takraw - Constructing a lesson plan to showcase teaching Takraw to Key Stage 3 pupils. (11-14yrs) (As part of the new and improved 'alternative curriculum' module allowing new sports to be experienced and seen by students). The lesson went well and all were enthusiastic about taking part and enjoyed the new sport.
A final year training PE teacher at the university of Brighton, studying an alternative activities module found our website during her research. Discovering Takraw and the UK's Association's new website, Amy found Takraw was the perfect sport for her task.
The lesson was aimed at Key Stage 3 pupils (11-14yrs) and was taught through a games for understanding approach. This is a drive to get away from the stereotyped sports in PE and bring a change to the curriculum.
The alternative curriculum module has only recently been implemented this year, and has only been able to occur due to the new and 'improved' school curriculum 2008, which encourages new innovative ideas.
Potentially working together with the Association we may make a difference by expanding the awareness of the sport and encouraging children to become involved. We look forward to supporting her in her new role at a school in Upminster.
Amy remarked
"It went really well, also fellow trainees loved it so I gave them your website details and a copy of the lesson plan that I did - So hopefully they will try and take it into other schools"
