Chang, a South Korean student in the UK continuing with his studies in English found the UK Takraw Association on facebook. He sent us a message saying he was on his way to the UK and looked forward to joining and helping the UK Association! Amazed by his forwardness and enthusiasm, we wondered if it could be true.. or an elaborate hoax!
True to his word, Chang - A true gentleman, arrived and told us his story of how he loved playing and teaching Takraw and that it would be an honour to teach and spread Takraw in the UK.
When meeting Chang we were impressed with his knowledge and commitment to Takraw. He explained he played and taught Takraw and was studying Sports Industry in Korea.
After a chat, we popped outside and Chang blew us away with his skills with a Takraw. We at the association (and the general UK public) are used to seeing the sublime skills of football freestylers, but this was something else, accuracy, poise and composure, mixed with the flair of martial arts movements - It was a fresh site to see, and an impressive one. We could not wait to see him tap into the potential the UK has to create amazing Takraw players, especially from its deep roots in skilled ball games.
