Sepak Takraw News

  • Sepak Takraw Beglium Logo

    The date for the Sepak Takraw training course is fixed on the 29th, 30th and 31st of October 2011. MAS-team is coming to Belgium - De Pinte, to train everybody who participates. After the weekend everybody gets an official trainers certificate in Sepak Takraw approved by ISTAF. The sessions will be going on in training-center OCP in De Pinte near Gent (Belgium).

    The deals have been done and most of the results are in. ISTAF and UFA Sports have sold rights to several broadcasters including Eurosport. Sepak Takraw has been broadcast before by channels like ESPN but never before has filming and broadcasting been done on this scale. Add to this the fact that ISTAF has customised the rules to suit a TV audience and you can see why there's a buzz surrounding this upcoming tournament.

  • Stilt walker at Danson Festival

    On July 2nd and July 3rd we will once again be at the Danson Festival. An annual affair in Bexley held by Bexley Council and REM. As always there will be much to see and do. Although, this year, there will be something you haven't seen before. A professional Sepak Takraw demonstration! That's right, 12 Malaysian Sepak Takraw experts flown in just for you Bexley!

    There have been new hopes for Olympic Recognition with a rallying statement from Abdul Halim Bin Kader - President of the Asian Speak Takraw Federation (pictured). Riding on the back of new surge in Takraw promotion from ISTAF and others, thousands are hoping this elusive status can be reached - Finally gaining the recognition it so sorely deserves.

    One of largest barriers to other countries adopting Sepak Takraw is the lack of televised events and professionally authored DVDs. That however could all change. As part of their plans to revolutionise Sepak Takraw, ISTAF and UFA Sports Asia have unveiled an all-new ISTAF Tournament Calendar creating a truly exciting line-up of brand new international Takraw tournaments.

    The Sepak Takraw UK Association recently spoke to Julia Harries, a teacher from Hartford High School. We were excited to hear that they had recently adopted Sepak Takraw. So, as you can imagine, we were thrilled to hear that this had come about as part of the International Inspiration programme. Not only that but Sir Chris Hoy would be visiting the school to celebrate the scheme and see the results first hand.

    University of Worcester found the UK Association and got involved. Coaching Science students have been tasked with developing their abilities coaching and understanding Takraw. Opening up the chance for coaching awards to become recognised in the UK.

    A trainee PE teacher studying at The University of Brighton has got involved with Takraw - Constructing a lesson plan to showcase teaching Takraw to Key Stage 3 pupils. (11-14yrs) (As part of the new and improved 'alternative curriculum' module allowing new sports to be experienced and seen by students). The lesson went well and all were enthusiastic about taking part and enjoyed the new sport.

    The Facebook group solely created to spread the word and unite the worlds Takraw fans and followers. Found and spread by all corners of the world, we have had great support and countries of origin are hugely excited about Takraw in the UK, and Europe (where it is steadily growing also).

  • UEL Takraw Logo

    UEL - The first Uni in the UK to accept Takraw and allow it to be a sport there, are continuing with it's support. A Few key players / enthusiasts at the Uni will be captaining and running training sessions, lead / assisted by our Head Coach Chang Min Jung. Chang has seen some promise there and sees no reason why they cannot form a team and compete with other Unis or teams around the UK.

  • Takraw in the Park Leaflets

    We took some nets and Takraws to a well known park in London and played Takraw with a hands on demonstration that anyone was free to join in. People ranged from football fans to people with little coordination but all had fun trying the sport and some of its associated moves! Again the UK public showed promise in our nation becoming a decent team in the future!

  • Chang Min Jung

    Chang, a South Korean student in the UK continuing with his studies in English found the UK Takraw Association on facebook. He sent us a message saying he was on his way to the UK and looked forward to joining and helping the UK Association! Amazed by his forwardness and enthusiasm, we wondered if it could be true.. or an elaborate hoax!

  • Takraw Tent at Danson Festival

    On the 4th and 5th of July 2009 @ Danson Park, (address below) - The UK Association hosted a tent with information, Takraws, competitions and a try-out area with mini-net! - Some of our members also attempted to do a public demonstration in the main demo area (which drew crowds and a variety of people, some joining in on the courts next to us. A big thank you to all who attended and showed their support!

    On 3rd June 2009 we launched the UK's very own Association Website - Giving the UK its own resource for Takraw. A social network style website - Connecting the people of the UK with each other and the International Takraw community. Before the launch we acquired a supply of Takraws from reputable suppliers from Malaysia and Thailand, to allow us to be the UK's main distributors of Takraws - Allowing the people of the UK to purchase Takraw equipment and begin to play Takraw.
